So I had a buddy ask me the other day about feeding the little bricks instead of regular bales of hay.. What are the pros and cons to the two different methods?? Is it supposed to be cheaper? More nutritous??
I think the OP means hay cubes. Very common in CA.
Whiteknite, many people, especially in the West feed hay cubes without incident. However, my personal preference would be the hay. Like Alwaysbehind stated, they need the long stem, plus hay takes them longer to eat (which they enjoy), has less chance of causing choke & you can see what you are feeding. I don't know how you can be sure what is in the cubes?
Yes, cubes can be soaked to soften but I don't have that kind of time.
Oooooh, hay cubes. I have never heard them called bricks. That makes sense. (I guess I never thought of that because I would not find hay cubes to be cheaper than baled hay.)
You can provide hay and supplement with hay cubes.
ya sorry thats what my buddy said they called them in the store.. I guess its somewhat popular over here but eh.. i'll stick with hay.. just figured i'd try to get some different oppinions on them..
Cubes are my choice of last resort when I can't get hay or hay stretcher.
Hay is preferable, with hay stretcher being second, then cubes dead last.
