Duke is underweight!

Hi, I 've noticed that my 2 year old gelding is not gaining weight like he should. I can see his ribs slightly and his spine feels a bit prominent. He's been on pasture for about a week now and he also has mushy stools. he was introduced to pasture bit by bit. I am worried he might have ulcers. I am going to get him dewormed soon. If he doesnt improve, I'm putting him on ulcer treatment.
Is that the right thing to do?
