I think I am overreacting a bit... I picked up a 14 year old palomino gelding. He had a big belly and I could feel his ribs but not see them. He had been living the good life for six years sitting in a pasture eating grass. That’s all he had... wasn’t on grain or anything special.I bought him at the beginning of July and started working him. He was getting all the hay he wanted (grass hay) and a scoop of sweet feed daily. About a week ago I realized I could see his ribs when he moved and when he ran I could see every single one. So I upped him over to a scoop of Tribute Kalm Ultra and started him on Alfalfa cubes (about 3-4Lbs a day weighed dry, fed soaked). He is also on pasture. I’m really worried as he is a trainee I am selling and I don’t want to sell him in bad shape! I will put some pictures on. You can’t reallg see them in pictures but when he moves slightly it just seems as if everyone of them pops out. Pictures are all from this week or past week. The second to last is one where you can slightly see his ribs (they show a lot more when he moves!) and last picture is what he looked like when I bought him. They maybe have a quarter of an inch of fat over them where as before, when I first bought him, they had at least a half. Is this him getting fit or loosing too much. Am I feeding him enough?
