On jan 1st Zephyr knocked his hock while walking over a solid metal bar while we were out for a ride.
He was immediately very lame but after I led him for a bit he became OK enough to ride him back to the float (about 1/2 hour walk)
When I got him home I poulticed him with a clay poultice.
He hasn't been very lame and is hardly lame at all now - certainly wasn't lame a couple of days ago when he was galloping around bucking and hooning with the others, however after that display the swelling has come up again.
I have been poulticing every day and haven't ridden him since this as I am waiting for the swelling to go down.
I can flex his hock up and back with no problem so I am certain there is no bone involved.
My questions are...
1. Do you think that because the swelling has come up again I should get a vet out to take a look?
2. Do you think, as I do, that it is probably just a bruise that will take a couple of weeks to resolve?
Bear in mind that he is a HUGE sook who is really enjoying the attention and the poultices. I have also caught him trotting around when he thought I wasn't there, using his big powerful trot with NO hint of lameness and yet when i turned up he immediately slowed to a stilted walk as he came up to me (I kid you not)
I attach some photys taken soon after the injury, I include one of him deliberatley holding his leg out at a weird angle to show me (he doesn't stand like this normally even with this injury) and of him 'showing' me his injury.
Thanks so much
