How awful! I am so sorry....

I agree with the other posters, it sounds like a neurological event of some kind. Stroke, seizure, brain tumor... even rabies is a neurological disease. Rabid animals act very nuts at the end.

If there is ANY chance in the world that he had Rabies - please get booster shots for the other horses. The Rabies virus lives in bodily fluids and can be passed from animal to animal through saliva. If the horses were grooming one another....or if someone involved with the affected horse touched another animal without washing his hands...that could be enough to spread the virus from horse to horse or even horse to person.

Be safe...

Leasing a spoiled rotten trail horse...pretty - but a brat!

The OP is in Ireland. Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales are all technically considered "rabies free" so the chances of it being rabies is extremely, extremely slim.

It does sounds like something - a blow or other injury, might have caused neurological damage. But you also mention he has always had a bit of a screw loose - it might be he had something like a tumor that has been there for years unknown. There is really know way to know for sure without a postmortem.

No matter the cause, it is very scary, and sad, and I am so sorry you lost a friend. You and your BO will be in my thoughts.

Thanks guys...

I don't think rabies is even considered here so I wouldn't say they are vaccinated against it..Wouldn't the other horses have it by now if that was it?

Yes he was always a bit mad so he could have had a tumour for a while. I know some horses can randomly act very bad one day but everyone just knew he was gonna be bold XD

I drew a picture of him for our yard =D I hope they like it!
