horse jumping at 23

my horse ruby is a 23 year old standarbred and up to last year she was jupming 3 feet with ease. i gave her the summer off for jumping and just hacked her out.. i was just wondering what age do you stop jumping them at? shes a very energetic, never guess she is 24 year old. she has never had leg/feet problems excpet for wind puffs and she loves it. shes more energetic then my 5 year old standarbred.

so if anyone knows or has suggestions on ways to keep her young :)

I would talk to your vet, but a girl i board with has a 27yr old quarter horse, and she jumps him, not a lot, but he does everything. I think it would be fine as long as you don't go any higher, and don't do it all the time. My horse is 19 and he just started jumping, we just do baby jumps, but he loves it and doesn't want to stop! Make sure you have him on joint supplements too.

I agree, talk to your vet. Some x-rays of her feet, knees, and hocks might be in order if your vet thinks she has any arthritic changes.

I would probably "semi-retire" from jumping, in that you go lower and jump less often.

I know I'm a bit late... but just wanted to say that I have seen plenty of aged horses still competing out on the A circuit. There was a horse, "Wave", who was still doing grand prix at 26.
Obviously, not every horse can do it. BUT if you maintain your horse properly and they have no major issues, there's no need in slowing down or quitting. I would have a good vet check done and go from there!

I think it's just like people... you're only as old as you act : )
