How much does it cost to get a coffin chip removed?

I bought a horse this winter with a coffin bone chip and it bother's him a little bit to canter for long periods even with rim pads under his shoes. I'm sure if I rode him regularly it would make him too lame to ride. I can't see the chip on the x-rays but my vet said its floating on the bone. I've read that even after I remove it the prognosis for soundness can still be bad. How much money will I need?

why do you not contact your local vets and see what it'd cost?

there is no way for anyone to give you a cost because we all vary so much on location.

all i know is, it wont be cheap...

Honestly it seems like this horse has a lot of issues from your posts, if he is pasture sound I would turn him into a pasture puff. There is not a big chance of future soundness with the surgery so I don't think it's wise to spend all the money on a horse that will probably end up being only pasture sound anyway. But in the end it is your money, and your horse, but take it from someone who's been working to keep a TB gelding sound for the past two years. In the end I retired him (after thousands spent) and he is happy and sound as a pasture horse. Now I have a new gelding who I know his full history and is sound.

I live in eastern CT

My vet is very busy and getting an estimate cost from him can be difficult. I know the travel time will cost about $65 and then I don't know how much the hospital stay at tufts would cost if the procedure has to be done at Tufts University Medical Center.
