most get fed once a day but our old mare gets fed twice a day and so does another that we are trying to get weight put on. They have 24 hr nice, lush pasture access and a mineral block

Twice a day if he comes in, with unlimited haylage. During the summer he is turned out at night and for a day or two during the day and during the winter he'll be out during the day and fed twice a day, but in at night with unlimited haylage.

in summer my horses are out in the field all day and get a small feed at night

in winter they are fed in the morning, turned out through the day, brought in at night, have a feed and then have ad-lib haylage all through the night

Why not more often? It's better for det horse :)

yes it's all well and good saying that, we all know horses trickle feed and need to be fed little and often, but not all people are fortunate enough to spend all day every day with their horses, people have jobs and they have to do what fits their lifestyle best

I only feed my horses once a day. I wish I could feed them more, but We board them somewhere (They don't feed them) So I can only get out there probably once a day.

My horse gets fed once a day and is out all night in the pasture (usually 15-ish hours). On her days off she's in the pasture all day.
The horses that don't go out to pasture or are trying to gain weight get fed twice a day.

I felt the poll was a little odd as it didn't specifiy hard feed or hay etc.. I voted 2x a day tho as I give rations at that time along with ample hay when needed to supplement the pasture. Some horses are shut in for 8-12 hours every day or so. If they get a bit fat they visit the spa(arena lock up). If they need extra they are allowed a place to eat undisturbed. So basically they have roughage available constantly. I dont' feed grain but do feed alf pellets, beet pulp and Total Equine to this one and that one. ;) Just depends on their need.

i feed adlib (free access) haylage at day and at night, but with a break of 4-6 hours on pasture turn out. in addition i give hard feed at morning and night just alfa-a original, cooling mix and sugar beet with a broad spectrum vit + min suplement
she's healthy as anything, so it seems to work :P x

From what I remember in college, small frequent meals are ideal along with lots of forage.

Make a photo album of your horse!
