Long term effects from suspensory injury?

My mare has been having trouble with her suspensory ligament for a while now. I brought her to the best vet around and he said she sprained it back in July. She has been on pasture rest or stall rest (6 weeks during August and September) since then and she is still off at the trot and lope. There is no swelling and you can hardly tell she is off unless you ride her. However, she rips and tears around the pasture playing.

I guess my question is can there be long term effects from suspensory ligament issues? Is her ligament weaker now and more likely to be injured again?

Thanks!

There can be lasting effects. I would have the vet recheck her or get a second opinion.

That being said, my horse tore his and was not on stall rest but had 3 months off and is now totally fine. He has Fox hunted since then and is now 24 and still jumps.
