Need help with new horses feed program!

Sorry this is long.....

I just bought a new horse who is an 11 year old QH gelding with some Arab in him. He is about 15.3hh. He will be used for trail riding maybe 2-3 days a week. The person I bought him from currently has him on free choice grass hay and
2 cups beet pulp soaked in 2 cups water
1 cup pelleted feed
1 cup Equipride supplement. She gives this concoction twice a day. The problem is he will be moving to a boarding stable that gives free choice grass/alfalfa mix hay and they are on pasture whenever possible. (Which won't be too much longer due to colder weather). Anyway, I asked her about this feed regime and she said the only reason she gives the beet pulp/pellets is to mix the supplement in and that the horse doesn't NEED anything special. He seemed to be a good weight except slightly on the skinnier side than the fatter side. He was healthy otherwise. I have been tearing my hair out trying to figure out what to feed him as I can only get out to the barn once/day. I've been thinking about ration balancers as that only needs to be fed once/day and I would be able to omit everything she was giving him while using the ration balancer. What would you guys suggest for his feed regime???

Thank you!

Check out or another nutritional service/program that can help you sort out what would be an appropriate ration balancer based on what else he's going to be getting.

That sounds plausible to me. I don't see why you can't just give him a little something extra once a day. I keep my guys at home but only give them their "treats" (Strategy or a bit of grain) once a day.

Alfalfa/grass mix sounds like the perfect combination of hays too. Protein and calcium from the alfalfa and the grass hay helps balance it out.
