Osphos for Arthritis

My mare has arthritis in both hocks. One hock is 90% fused, and the other is on its way. After trying steroid injections into the joint and not getting great results, my vet injected Osphos IM.

Has anyone used Osphos for their horse? What was your experience?

Thank you for your help!

Don't you want the hocks to fuse?? Osphos may interfere with that process.

I was told that the medication may slightly slow the fusion process, but it would make her much more comfortable while the fusing happens.

Here is some more information about Osphos you may not have seen or read...
The article is now a few years old, but the information about this drug is still true...
There may be more information about longevity results now that Osphos has been on the market longer....
OsPhos Now Available | Horse Journal

I would think your vet has your horses best interest and health foremost in mind. He may have directly seen positive results....

I know of one who used it as a navicular treatment....
Improvement in comfort of the horse was seen and noted...
Time will tell how effective though as it is only recently been introduced.

Good luck.

The worst day is instantly better when shared with my horse.....
