I have to say I am a bit perplexed with our pony. While trying to recover from a spine and hip injury(long hospitle stay, then not allowed to lift) I decided to get a round bale. A few days after the round bale being in the field, I notice all the horses coughing once or twice a day in pasture. The hay had white fluffy things on the top layer, that I mostly removed, and didn't see any further through the bale. When the bale was gone it all pretty much cleared up. With the horses, not the pony. I talked to previous owners, and they said that he'd been doing it for some time. And the vet had said it was just age. I've talked to others as well that have said that is possible. Now, he doesn't cough all the time. Just one cough, at random through out the day. Work or no work doesn't make a differance. Soaking hay does not make a diff. No fever, no other health issues. It sounds dry and just kinda irritated. I've talked to my vet about it, and he says he isn't concerned and doesn't think any medication or supplements are needed at this time. I really trust him as he's helped us through some nightmarish times, but it bothers me the he's still coughing. Some days its less some days its more. More mostly when its really chilly. His grain also is soaked with beat pulp added so no added dust there. Anyone have any ideas?
