PPE: Pregnancy check?

A friend of mine is buying her first horse. She's found a horse she really likes, a nice little QH mare, and if the PPE goes well, she's coming home.

The question I have is that the mare is kept on the same property as a stallion, and has a bit of a belly. Easily could be passed off as a grass belly and the owners say she hasn't been bred. But with the stallion being around, my friend has elected to have her checked for pregnancy.

This had me curious, I've only done PPE's on geldings, but is this commonly done on mares during the pre purchase?

Thanks

I've never bought a mare, but I've heard numerous stories about folks ending up with an extra addition when they bought one. As such I wouldn't hesitate to get a ppe done if there was any question.

A valid request, IMO but good luck trying to get it confirmed. I thought that the only for sure way was a urine test. Am I wrong?

Sounds like a very smart move on your friend's part.

Much better than a surprise later on!!

There is no joy equal to that found on the back of a horse.
