Preventing Cinch Sores

I remember there being a way to do up a cinch to keep it from riding in a horse's armpits, but I can't for the life of me remember how it was set-up. I do have a relief cinch, but can't afford another one right now and am not keen on using the same cinch for multiple horses anyway. (Those short backed, wide barreled, low withered horses are the ones that need it). Any help? 😁

I appreciate the help! I do the stretches, particularly on my main mare- she's so round in the belly and kinda narrow through her front - and although I love a good mohair cinch, I can't keep them from riding too far forward. Is there a way I can do them up that will help keep them where they belong?

I do similar to Charro , I cinch up in 3-4 stages. In between tightening's I work my horse around in a walk and a trot and back up too. I have a short coupled horse and use a Weaver 27 strand ropers cinch and no sores . We usually ride every other day and several miles each time. Usually 1-1 1/2 hour rides.
