Respiratory issue?

I've had my new gelding for about two months now, he is relatively healthy exept he needs to put on weight.(he's a rescue) He is utd on vaccines, worming, dental care. This morning i was wasing him on the cross ties and i noticed that every couple minutes when he would take a deep breath a loud rattling would be let out, it is not every breath. I thought maybe his halter was setting too low on his nose so i moved it up but he kept doing it. The weird part is he would tilt his head to the left and pull on the cross ties. I looked up his nostrils with a flashlight, no redness, no dirt, no drainage. He was not coughing or struggling to breathe. He stopped once i put him back in his stall. I will go and check on him this evening, if he doesn't improve i will call the vet. I live in Florida and we just had a nasty spell of cold and rain, but it's warm now.

Call the vet. This isn't something someone on the forum is qualified to diagnose. It could be an obstruction, the start of an infection, a current sinus/gutteral pouch infection, who knows? Best to have the vet look and give you advice. Is his temp normal? His capillary refill normal? How do his lungs sound?
Walkamile and Whinnie like this.

Could he be snorting at something? Do you know what that sounds like?

I live in Florida too....
Contact the vet either way...
It could be many things and needs hands-on diagnosis done...no letting time go by.
Call the vet and describe what you heard, where you were and what the horse was doing at the time.
Its important, and needs looked into now, not later!
...

The worst day is instantly better when shared with my horse.....
