Shockwave treatment information

I'm wanting to hear the all around explanation of shockwave treatment in horses. Specifically for use on arthritis or osteoarthritis and bone spavins. What is it? What does it do? How does it work? What does it cost? Has anyone tried it or can speak for its effectiveness? Etc. Thank you!

here is alink that should give you some answers I do know that the large equine centers here offer it.
Not sure how effective it is for osteoarthritis

Shock Wave Therapy -- Does It Work? |

Main application has been for soft tissue injuries, and not sure how the efficacy is for degenerative bone, or extra bone

McClure explained that some of the most common uses of shock wave therapies involve healing tendon and ligament injuries. He reviewed several studies in which researchers examined shock wave therapy use in several areas in the horse.

Perhaps call the nearest large equine center to you, and inquire both far as application and cost

When my mare was diagnosed with low ringbone (arthritis) I contacted a vet at Purdue who was researching and using Shock Wave Therapy and he said it wasn't effective against ringbone. This was when it was in it's infancy so maybe things have changed.

Thank you both! If you all saw my thread about my geldings arthritic issues it's something the vet actually mentioned for him. He is the one with the large bony growth on the inside of his lower hock joints.

My understanding (having done 4 on my horse's suspensory and 4 on his bicep bursa on the RF) is that its effective on soft tissue injuries (muscular/connective tissue), and tendon injuries especially near attachments near to the periosteum lining of the bone.

It costs roughly 375.00 for one location (1000 shocks) and a second location 115.00 (1000) shocks. Cdn.
There is alot of research out there on SWT.
