Question Swollen Hock

My daughters horse has both her hocks swollen, vet will be coming on the 21st. We just found this out after the farrier came and trimmed her. We are new to owning a horse and would like some advice.

What can I and my daughter do in the meantime to help her?

Thanks

A picture would help since your description is rather vague....
More information is needed to offer any "what is this what can I do in the meantime" while waiting for the vet....

Are you sure this was not there before the farrier trimmed your horse?
Was it the farrier who noticed and said something?
How old is the horse?
What type of riding is the horse doing?
What kind of riding did the horse do in the past?
Is the horse stalled all day, have a turnout situation? For how many hours a day? Or is the horse 24/7 out?
The horse is new to you...did you do a PPE looking for uncovering any conditions or issues?
Is it the entire hock?
A small part of the hock?
Where on the hock?
Is the horse lame or favoring a limb?
Is it hard or squishy to the touch?
Does the horse react if you touch or palpate it with more than a feather light touch?
Does it appear to be painful or uncomfortable to the horse?
Does it go down or away with movement, exercise?
Is it in both hocks, one hock?
Is it appearing to be the same amount of swelling if in both hocks?

So many things it could be or not be.....
.....

The worst day is instantly better when shared with my horse.....

I would also look a picture. Is he sound (moving well, not limping)? And yes, was not there before the farrier, only after?
