Where is it located? How long has it been there? Did it just appear? Any old injuries? Do you have a photo from a further view? From my computer view my first thought was an old freeze brand but since you said a week... Did it appear a week ago?

Looks like a cluster of bites. Can happen when a single biter ends up trapped. They bite until they are freed or smashed.

Some horse people change their horse, they change their tack and discipline, they change their instructor; they never change themselves.

Thanks guys - Yeah it looks like bites to me. She did go in the trail once but is has been so cold I thought otherwise.

I have seen it last week has it been there prior possible but I think I would of noticed it prior.
She has them on the barrel area behind where your leg would lay and a small one on the thigh.

Should I put anything on it?

Could be melanomas that are just getting started. Unless they interfere with something vets usually advise to leave them alone.

Oh boy I hope this is not the case. I know biopsies can make things spread in something like this. The last thing I want is for my daughter to loose a horse from cancer.

I hope not too @Horse girl 07 , but she's a gray so you have to consider it a possibility.

Yes I suppose so. I was concerned though in her later years but not so soon. I had to put down my last horse at 20 years of age due to a crushed pastern. surgery would of been only 15% chance of success with a long and difficult healing process with many complications. It was unknown how it happened. Horses hurt themselves that is a given and it can be often serious but never really a true reality until it actually happens. It has not been more then three weeks since we had this horse and now it appears suddenly. Perhaps the stress had brought it on. I pray it just a irritation.

You could try daubing the area with Prep H and Benadryl gel. If it's bites, a reaction or irritation, it should shrink. If it stays the same, probably something else.

I don't know how it works in horses, but as a human who has had a melanoma, I can tell you they don't just appear suddenly. So if this just appeared suddenly, that's probably not what it is. I'm going with bug bites also.
