withers laceration question
Four weeks ago my horse sliced open his withers just where the mane stops.
He was probably down on one knee trying to get grass under a rope fence. I assume he got spooked and jumped away, causing a 3-4 inch laceration. The vet was called immediately and put in 10 stitches to close it up. We did a 10 day round of antibiotics and kept the wound clean and dry. It is finally closed up now. I hesitate to put the saddle on his back yet because I 'm curious about possible nerve damage which would likely take a bit longer to heal? I use a very lightweight eventing type jump saddle but I'd rather err on the cautious side.
Anyone had a similar experience with their horse? Thanks!
