Dad's First Ride (Lots of pics)!

It's not dad's first ride ever but it is however his first ride on his own unbroke horse!!Dad has a prostetic foot (just blow the knee amputation of the right leg) so he won't admit it but you can definitely tell he's very uncomfortable with his riding, but wanted badly to have Talon trained for him. I have worked with Talon in the past but not at all this year. He's been ridden Maybe 5 times at most and never a serious session of training (not being lead).

So tonight I trimmed his feet a bit. lunged him a little with the saddle and sacked him out. He stood great for everything. Did a little flexing work and he was still soft from a year ago. Grabbed my helmet and boots and hopped on.

I was treating him like I treat my freshly broke girls (plow rein trained) like using pressure from my feet, if he slowed at all bumping him til he was going good again. He turned off pressure great and got a good pace going after a little bit.

Now it's Dad's turn. Dad hopped up and had a time getting him going because dad is afraid of his feet coming out of the stirrups if he bums alot. He has his feet in so far it made me nervous but after a little coaxing they were doing awesome together! Dad was happy alot he doesn't look it. I think he was really focused on his reins and feet cause I kept nagging him to give more rein and use more leg. PICTURES!

These are of me and Talon (obviously lol) Just working out the kinks.

Just one of me and dad Sitting still lol.

Oh the horse seems so sweet! How nice you've been working with Talon for your dad. And huge congratulations to him for riding Talon - he looks really good up there! Both of you keep up the good work and keep everyone posted on your progress.

You can tell a gelding. You can ask a stallion. But you must discuss it with a mare. -Unknown

Looks like he is doing great! Kudos to your dad for hopping on. There is no way I would get my dad on my horse's back... LOL... and my horse probably appreciates that. Great pictures and cute horse! :)

Good job! I'm sure your dad appreciates having a daughter that would go through the trouble of helping to train a horse for him
