My horse from Outer Space

I was on Google Maps checking traveling routes, and I saw my horse!

Screen Shot 2019-12-08 at 8.31.45 AM.jpg

The red roof is our house, the pointy things are DH's boats (some of them), the dark donut-thing is our pond, Poo Lagoon, and then highest up is the barn roof and horse paddock.

My horse, Boojum is the little golden squiggle, and I am the tannish blob in the middle, walking toward him.

I think our satellite image must be very old, as there is a structure on the property that is definitely not there anymore and wasn't when we bought the house LOL

Darn. The horses must be in the barn when I searched mine. It's several years old as the round pen isn't there, and no horses in sight!

Ok, this is cool lol

My ponies in the upper right hand corner.

And then the whole field. The red is roughly their field (the fence and the tree line are the markers really, and then the road). Blue is my barn. Yellow are where the horses are. And orange is the only actual flat spot in the field where I can ride lol

@Captain Evil , when I opened this thread, I thought you had a "horse from outer space" - perhaps like this:

Or perhaps just a metaphor to let us know it behaved in an odd way? And then I saw what you really meant.

It's a bit like this:

SueC is time travelling.

Yes, google satellite is very cool! We also have a lot of small planes flying over our properties all the time. They take photos then try to sell them to people, but I find it a bit disconcerting.

It took about two years for google maps to catch up to the fact that we had built a barn :) But I used their images to plan my pastures! Getting a bird's eye view is so useful for things like that. You can get some good measurements and plan how many posts you'll need, etc.!

These images are really fun!

This post makes me think of a news story from a couple of weeks ago near my town- a houdini horse managed to escape and got himself lost on a mountain that was very difficult terrain to search by foot. So the owner brought in a drone company and found him almost right away. His orange-for-hunting-season blanket certainly helped!

Full story:

Apparently this drone company is starting to market themselves as useful in finding lost pets. Pretty neat.

I have images saved from the changes we made as we cleared and put in fence lines. Here there are more frequent pictures and uploads it seems - twice a year. Fall/Winter (no leaves) and Spring/Summer (full leaf).
