Better or worse- a dressage critique journal.

I tried a journal. I'm bad at those. Can't seem to have enough words for them.

However, I love feedback on my rides, so I thought I'd try to make a "critique journal" (hopefully that's legal) where I would upload videos as I can get them and some of the brilliant souls (honestly I think HF has realestate in some of the best horsemen and women) could tell me what to do different or better. I don't get many lessons, and we're mostly on our own for dressage at a barn that does all the AQHA disciplines.

I've titled it "better or worse" because the idea is to evuate improvement from the last ride, or the last month, or the year before.

Okay. Run down. This is Nick, Arabx German riding pony (or American sport pony whichever you will). He's 10ish. Too green for ten, but oh well. Low miles. We've spent awhile fighting saddle fit, spent 8 months bareback, ended up with a Stubben Juventus (I thought it was a laurus... Woops) and we appear to be trucking along in our dressage and muscle building.

So here is a brief timeline. Please nobody feel like they need to watch them all. You'll end up like my SO who thinks dressage is like watching paint dry.

And that's us!

I'm not sure what you're looking for but there is a lot of improvement ride to ride and the last is definitely a lot better. He is straighter, more balanced, and more true.

thanks. Hes starting to feel different. really Up in the back and soft to the hand. we'll have it for 2 or three rides, then he'll wear out and give me less, and we take a break, then a day later, he feels good and we're right back at it. canter is getting really really really light... like overnight. I cant discredit him for clarity... 2 months after i ditched my saddle I got on him one day. sat there a second. got off. stared at him. got back on. His back had come up an inch. the man is at least obvious.

So my recommendation to any amateur like myself is this- get you a Nick, something that you work on and work on and then all of a sudden stuff comes together in a really obvious way. Like you couldn't even hope to confuse it with what it was before. that obvious. like riding a different horse. makes it easier to know that you're doing the right things.

You're doing a great job with him! You should be really proud of what you two have done together on your own, that isnt easy! And I agree. It is nice to have a horse who is honest and yes you still have to work for what you get but they come by it honestly without having to work through a maze of quirks and issues. A good horse is a treasure and the right horse is different for everybody. I'm glad you found Nick and you two have each other really cute photo of you two btw

Yesterday's ride after a 4 day hiatus, was pretty "eh" but today's went well. I focused on some laterals- got shoulder in going right (extremely sticky usually) and was very pleased. I did renvers on the left and some leg yielding both directions. I was really excited to have a video of it until I realized that my phone positioned where it was has zero vantage point of the
left long side of the arena. Woops. Next time I'll set it at the start of a long side.
