XC critique :)

This is just a couple images of the XC from our last event of the year! Got first out of ten so Im SUPER proud and next year we are gonna be moving to Novice level.. this is from a beginners novice course... let me know what you think! I know I need to release!! I have no idea what happened to my release lol I use to have one.. almost to much of one >.>..... now it seems I have nothing.. After seeing these pictures I apologized to nova! :P

She took quite a bit of a long spot on this one! :P Shes been good about it but I think I may not quite set her up right. Either way she saved my butt as she always does!

Heres one from our last dressage show .. shes darker due to the winter coat came in sooner then expected!

I can't say much about the jumping photos except you look darn good to me. I bet you were a bit releived when she did make that long one.

as to the dressage, that photo is hard to judge by. there is a faint impression of you gripping with your knee and having the same toes out you'd have on the jumping field, and a whiff of you holding the horse, maybe countering off the reins a bit with the knee. you want more "allowing" her to come through, up and through.

now, again, I can't see in detail due to that angle, so this is an impression only.

She's definitely leaving long to the jumps. Make sure you're not just throwing her over the jumps in your XC courses. She should be pushing on, but you'll still need her to set back on those haunches over these jumps. Strides out before the jump, you should be bringing her back to get her using her bum. If you let her just gallop on up to the jump, you're not doing you or her any favors.

Your release issue likely stems from throwing her over the jumps. If you really sit back and hold her to the base of each jump, you'll find that each release comes easier. It's really not that bad how it is, as XC is ridden a little more defensively.

Other than those small things, I really like you guys together!
I'm not a dressage rider, so I can't comment on your last picture. Your horse is SUPER cute though, by the way!! I'm a little biased towards dark bays, and her jump is gorgeous What a nice girl!

Your right about me needing to sit and hold her to the base. I have to do that for stadium to keep her on the ground till the last stride otherwise she leaves to early.. so I think I need to start doing that in XC.. I tend to ride in half seat through XC.

Thank you for the nice comments! :) Shes a good girl tries her hardest

Like others have said, you do need to work on getting her to the base more consistently. You can get away with that at BN, but as the fences get bigger, that might not work so well. Lots of schooling gymnastics and over square oxers during the off season. Ride her right up to the base.

In the dressage pic, it's hard to tell from the angle, but I think your hand might be a bit too low breaking your straight line to the bit. Otherwise looks very nice. Congrats on your 1st place finish. That must feel good to end the year like that.
