I agree with the other posts. Horses are creatures of habit and will quickly pick up any routine when done consistantly. You'll be much better off varying your routine, reinforcing the cues, and making sure you're always the one that decides the what/when/wheres.

On the sixth day, God created the Quarter Horse.
On the seventh day, he Painted the good ones.

wow thankyou everyone.
I will try and mix things up but I still have to cue for canter in coners.
I will try more sit trots and sit in the coners and not ask and if he anticipates slow him down.
I didnt know you could go from just trotting then canter I though you had to sit trot to help the horses or something?

Buzz is generally a hack horse butwas hoping to go a bit futher with him in shows and stuff.

If nothing else, you have a horse that is very responsive to your seat which is great. Whether you realize it or not, when you think about cantering, your body is already doing things to set up the necessary movements to cue your horse. Horse's can feel that subtle stuff and the ones that are very tuned in will take the cue seemingly before it is applied. Like others said, the key is to make sure he is still taking the cues from you and not doing them on his own. I frequently test this same thing with my horse. We play trot-canter-trot-walk-canter-etc. As you already know, mix it up, stay as subtle as possible and have fun with it. Most horses love that game. You'll quickly know if you have the other type if he just starts blowing off your cues instead.

You just have to see your distance...you don't have to like it.
