I'll have to look at it when I go out there tomorrow. It's some German brand. It seems like it's made for a draft horse, but my guy is kind of shaped like a miniature draft.

Someone at my barn was selling this one, and I had no interest whatsoever in looking at it, because it's a size 18 (!) and Pony is a pony with a short back, and I'm a small-ish person (also I wasn't interested in doing dressage). But the way he went in this one versus the other one was night and day -- I no longer have to ride him with a crop, he's forward yet relaxed, he's happy to move out. The only thing I don't like is thinking about how long I had him in the other saddle, thinking that he was lazy when in fact it just hurt him to move in it (and he has the white mane growing out of his withers to show it, sadly).

Lovatt and Ricketts saddles fit very short backed, wide horses. They used to be called Arabian Saddle Company.
Their all purpose models are called Elan or Sylvan, and are very comfortable. I rode my tiny, super short backed (wide) Arabs in the 17 and 17.5 inch sizes and they were still short enough. They have hoop trees.

Have you gone to https://www.horsesaddleshop.com/ yet? They have used and new English. I know their used stock changes a lot but I would check them out. I love ortho flex personally as you can work with different needs in a flexible way to fit different horses. That's my recommendation. Hope it helps.

Is there a brand of saddle out there that makes short, upswept panels suited for a short backed, wide load of a horse in AP or CC? I'm having a heck of a time finding something to fit the bill, especially since there's no tack shops within a 2 hour drive.
There are brands of saddles that come with the option of a hoop tree - the gullet is more rounded rather than a upside down v-shape intended for the wide horses with less pronounced withers, such as Morgans. Thornhill saddlery has models with hoop trees, and I considered getting one for my Morgan mare.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I actually saw a wide cc stubben for sale for 150$ and I couldn't help myself! Considering how my wintec is actually too wide with the wide gullet, I'm hoping this will be just right. If not, I'll keep it around in case he changes shape.

If not, well, I'll consider it a mother's day gift for my mother in law.

I've had my eye on a lovatt and ricketts imperial saddle, does anyone know how those are quality wise?

Yes, my friend bought one off Ebay and it is poor quality. It can't be compared to the three Lovatt and Ricketts saddles I've owned that were not the wholesale "Imperial."
The stitching is large and not tight, the leather is not quality, and it's a very basic cheap saddle. My L & R saddles are made from soft, quality leather, have good flocking and quality construction.
