Aussie Saddles - Down Under Kimberley Stock vs Endurance?

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a new saddle, but I'm still somewhat torn between the Down Under Kimberley Synthetic Stock and the Synthetic Endurance. This will be my first Aussie saddle, so I don't want to spend a ton of $$ on it. I know a "true" Aussie saddle would run me much more than these saddles ;)

For those of you that have one of these saddles, why did you choose the one you did (Endurance or Stock)?

I plan to use this saddle on trail rides (usually 1-4 hours at a leisurely walk/trot) and so I'm looking for a saddle that will be comfortable for both me and my horse and give me a little more security than my English close contact saddle while still being lighter than my heavy Western saddle. I know the Endurance is a little lighter than the Stock, but I'm leaning towards the Stock anyway, since it has the Serge panels and the traditional Aussie rigging with a sweat flap.

How long are the flaps are on the Endurance and Stock? (I called Down Under, but the person I spoke to didn't know). Based on the photos online, it looks like the Stock saddle has much longer flaps. Will a standard dressage saddle pad fit under the Stock saddle, or will the flaps of the Stock hang down past the end of the pad?

When I got my saddle I did look at both models (I bought on line so it was pretty much a virtual look and virtual research). Like you, Monkey, I didn't want to spend tons of money on an unknown but also didn't want to buy substandard product.

I'm fuzzy on some of my thinking now as that was awhile ago that I made the purchase but these were some of the things I pondered:

1. Both saddles had basically the same seat with regard to the size of the poleys and cantle. In fact, I think they may use the same tree -- I wouldn't be surprised if they did as it would be more cost effective from a production standpoint to do so.

2. I don't remember much on panel/flap size difference between the two which says to me I must have thought them close in comparison. I do remember I liked the idea of the shorter flaps as I just don't get why other styles of Aussie saddles need those great long ones. At any rate, I find the panels are quite close to the traditional English saddle length -- perhaps a tiny bit longer and definitely a little wider in comparison to my English all purpose saddles. At any rate, a dressage pad will work with it.

3. I wrestled with girth system choice. I like the idea of the over girth/surcingle idea but I didn't like the buckle set up. There again, I didn't get why the girth proper couldn't have the same buckles with the over girth set up to accommodate said buckles (since then I have seen a few conversions that some folks have done to 'normalize' it to take a dressage style girth).

4. Weight was a consideration (I find the endurance model a good weight for me, btw) so I wanted to go as light as possible. I injured my shoulder and had surgery to repair it so I need to be more careful now with how I use it. That meant I didn't want to use my western saddles (man, some days I swear those things weigh as much as me) except for special occasions but I didn't want to lose their security hence the Aussie purchase.

What eventually tipped the scales in favour of the endurance saddle was the dealer had a new saddle in that had some cosmetic damage done to it through the shipping process so it was marked down. They did an excellent job of repairing it and I would have been hard pressed to find the area if they hadn't told me where it was.

P.S. As an fyi, the gullet of the saddle can be adjusted. I sent in a wither tracing with my order and I was quite satisfied at how well that saddle fits.
