Barrel Saddle for my kids

Does this look like a good deal?

Circle Y Barrel Saddle, 14", Full QH Bars for sale in Chester, Pennsylvania, United States of America :: HorseClicks

I am looking for a saddle for my kids. I am looking at barrel saddles because I read they are deeper and might make them feel more secure. I am new to horse ownership, so what questions should I ask this seller?

It seems to look like they took care of it. The leather looks decent, and the fleece isn't too bad. Typically, older Circle Y's are one of those "quality-made" type of saddles. They just don't make them anymore like that!

How old are your kids? How big are they? Are you sure a 14" is going to fit them correctly?

I wouldn't rely on a barrel saddle making them more secure. They should learn to ride based on balance. The type of saddle shouldn't matter. Yes, barrel saddles are deeper in order to aid the rider to stay with a horse who is powering out of a barrel turn.

When I have kids someday, they are going to learn to ride bareback BEFORE I buy them a saddle. That's what my mother did for me. (My mom didn't even have a saddle until she was 14 and got her older sister's hand-me-down) And that's how you develop balance. Just a thought.

It is not enough to know how to ride; one must know how to fall.

Hi :)
I'm a Saddle maker from Australia, I make western saddles (including barrel saddles) & fender saddles, this one looks ok to me especially for that price the rigging looks secure and the stirrups leathers should still be in good condition judging by the rest of the saddle. It does look like it has a nice deep seat which will help them feel more secure and closer to the horse the only thing i'd say is it might be a bit slippery on the seat, maybe a saddle with a suede seat would be a little better giving them some more grip :)

The saddle its self looks to be in good condition. But are not only fitting your kids but the horse too. Do you know what kind of gullet he requires? If not I would get somebody out who does know how to fit a saddle properly
