Custom bit maker...

I'm seriously considering finding someone to make a bit (well, a hackamore) for me. I have a custom one that I was lent and I love it, it works very well for both me and Tess. However there aren't any exactly like it made (the guy who made them passed away years ago). I've been searching for ages but even when I posted on facebook asking if anyone had a bit like it they wanted to sell, people contacted me saying they'd buy the bit from me.

How does one go about finding a bitmaker? I'm not sure if I have to find a local place or if you could send pictures and have someone replicate it or what.

Or, if someone on here has a bit like this they want to sell, I'd gladly buy it.

No matter how much you think you know about horses, there will always be one that'll come along and teach you something new.

@trailhorserider unfortunately not, the rings where the bit attaches are fixed, whereas in the one I have they're not. And the noseband is attached differently.

@Foxhunter I'll look them up.

A few years ago I looked into getting a mechanical hackamore made, since there is no bit I wanted to get a blacksmith to make one for me. You could then get a tack repair shop to finish this one for you. I never followed through with mine, if you get your hackamore make, please let me know.

Okay, I realized they were a little different but didn't realize you were looking for exact.

The cheek pieces are similar to what Kerry Kelley sells as the "bogey" cheek piece in his barrel horse bit line for custom order.
You could maybe have them modify, twist and put rings in for the bridle loops. You can cut a chunk of rope for the nose piece.
A custom hackamore from Kerry is about $800.
But I bet you could get the cheek pieces and find someone handy to modify.

There is another guy in TX who made my banana gag bit for a steal but he has got popular recently. Not sure of his prices and wait time now.

GUYS I FOUND IT. CarolinaBit | Hackamores

after hours and hours of digging around and asking people I cam across this place and boom! That's pretty much the same darn thing. I called them to see if a curb chain and keeper comes with it, and they said it does.
