Dressage Clothes help

My daughter will be riding in her first dressage show in October. She will be riding in the easiest level doing walk/trot. I need to know what clothes are required? Also, If someone might point me in the direction of a good place to get some fairly cheap it would be much appreciated. She wears adult sizes. I don't want to invest a lot of money until I see if she is really going to be interested in it. She's only been riding for about a month now.

Look in local tack shops to see if any used show clothes are for sale (check out their bulletin board). For a low level dressage class, you can probably get away with a nice fitting hunt jacket,white/tan breeches, white or calm color show shirt, tall boots, and gloves (optional, but a nice touch). I'm no dressage rider but, just saying what I saw at my local Fair horse show.

It depends on the size of the show. If it is a schooling show, she could probably just wear a white polo or dress shirt, white or tan breeches, and tall boots or paddock boots, depending on what she owns right now. Schooling shows are really informal. If it is a bigger show, I agree with rodeogirl- she could wear a hunt jacket, but if you don't have one, I would suggest buying a dressage jacket, unless she wants to get into hunters/jumping.

Dover Saddlery usually has discounted prices- Dover Saddlery - Quality English Horse Tack & Horse Supplies for the Equestrian.
I believe they also have outlet (?) stores around in some places, also.

You can also just google "tack shop in ____" or whatever to find a store near you. Check with her instructor (if she has one), also- they might know of a good tack shop with show coats/show clothing.

I don't know if this will help at all but it's a TTC show. I don't know if my daughter will be interested in jumping or not, but the woman teaching her is a fox hunter...so it's always a possibility. When I say my daughter has been riding a month...I mean riding a horse, not just dressage riding. Unfortunately, up until now we have never had a horse that behaves well enough for a kid to ride. She seems to have some natural ability, but I doubt she will really be ready for the show....I am going to let her try though. It will be a lot of fun and she will learn a lot I'm sure.

Thank you very much for the tips rodeogirl and anrz. My poor daughter has to depend on me (one who knows nothing about dressage) to get her the right clothing for the event....so your help is much appreciated. If she decides she really likes it and wants to keep doing it, then I will fork out the money for some really nice stuff to wear...until then I want to get out as cheap as I can and still have her look appropriate.
