Um, what is it that the reaction is from? Is it from friction? The tights will not be as bad as say jeans, since they wont rub your legs.
I have Tuffriders and Cavalier (I think) and the tightness was odd feeling at first, but they are so freaking comfy! And I've only ever ridden in jeans before, and these were much better!
I did find some on ebay, for cheap, that seemed to be less restricting. Here's the listing. Casual Riding Pants

I like tailored sportsmen I find them to not restrict that much. I'm sure other people have had the opposite experience but never hurts to try them on.

Sorry, folks, another question then... What is the principal difference between breeches and tights? Can you show in tights?

Have no idea. I put them on and after couple minutes when I took them off legs were like having allergic reaction. I guess may be because it has synthetic in. I'm fine with jeans, btw, but they are all cotton.

Tights- for schooling, are made of light, stretchy material, and never for shows
Breeches- ussually thicker material, not as stretchy, and used mostly for shows

If your just looking for something more comfortable, Wrangler is making a riding jean called Q Baby jeans. I haven't tried them but if I'm wearing jeans to ride I always prefer Wanglers. Check out Smooth Stride as well. I have a pair and love them. They are pricey though. They are mostly cotton as well.
As far as the allergic reaction, I wonder if it was something in the sizing that is in so many things. It will usually wash out in the first machine wash, although thats no guarantee. With the price of some breeches, you would want to be sure

Thanks, Stormy!

Vida, as you mentioned with price on some of them, it's just.... too pricey to wash and find out they are decreased in size in half. Ha-ha-ha!

If you want to look at some just to drool over, take a look at the Equissentials They use real deer skin for the patches and have a recycling policy if you wear out the fabric. I would love to have the western endurance seat but for $299 I'll have to pass

I have worn my tights for shows and comps.

You can use tights for shows, I've seen it and done it myself - just so long as they are clean and tidy and presentable.

No problemo! And MIEventer- I think my trainer would have a heart attack if I showed in tights!
