Need Help Fitting Saddle! (pics)

This is the second saddle I've tried. They both seem to pop up in back, which means it's either too wide, or the curve isn't right for the horse's back. But it doesn't seem to tilt forward, and it's not sitting on her withers, so I don't think it's too wide. With no pad, it seems pretty tight under the tree, but I don't know how much pressure there should be, considering the weight of the saddle and everything. Can anyone give me any insight?

Without a doubt, the saddle is too wide. It may seem that it is level but it isn't. The reason it feels tight is because it is resting too low on his withers and the tightness you feel should be there but further up his shoulder.

If your saddle has FQH bars, then try a regular QHB or even a semi. Remember that no two mfgs measure their trees in the same way so that a semi in one brand could be a regular in another.

I've had several horses that were difficult to fit. One of my favorite horses took over 1/2 dozen saddles before I found the one that worked best. Don't give up just because you've tried 2. You need to consider the long range comfort of your horse.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just explaining why I'm right.

Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

It's not always what you say but what they hear.

I agree that it doesn't fit, but it doesn't seem to wide to me either. The front actually looks like a good fit, but you do have it about 1-2" too far forward in the pictures without a blanket. You also need to cinch it up to get a better idea of fit.

The front edge of the front concho should be about 1" behind the back edge of the horse's shoulder blade.

When you run your hand under the saddle, from front to back, you should feel even pressure with no air pockets or tight spots. The underside of the saddle should follow the angle of your horses back front to back and side to side.

I think you might want to look at a saddle with a flatter bar angle. Like a Qh or Full QH bar that isn't supper wide at the gullet, 6 3/4" or less. An Arab tree might work well too.
