Polo wraps actually provide next to no support - unless you were to wrap them so tight as to cut off circulation. If you really think a 4" wide strip of fleece wrapped relatively loosely is going to support 1300lbs then I suggest taking a material mechanics class :P

I boot my horse in full boots for flat work and occasionally in deep footing add bell boots just to protect his legs from themselves and walls.
When I "jump" (aka canter over raised poles :P) I use open fronts just to keep him from getting lazy and tapping rails.

ETA: And for clinics and when i want to look pretty I use polos.

I use either splint boots or polos on my TB whenever I ride, especially when jumping. Sometimes I forget if we're just doing walk/trot, but I never jump without leg protection.

I use polos on my big guy because boots don't fit him. XD Plus I think they offer a little more support.

We work cattle with our horses, and when we are sorting calves in a feedlot setting I will either polo wrap the horses or put boots on the boys just to keep them from stepping on themselves which our clumsy guys are prone to doing it seems lol
