Good advice. So far I haven't had any break on me. I like the ones that are basically what mountain climbers use.. Less apt to break I think.. ;)

If you should ever decide that you want to try those split reins again, I suggest that you get a thicker tie string. Some of those reins come with strings not much thicker than a piece of thread. If I can't find any thicker strings, I will poke larger holes in the reins and bit end then take a saddle string that has been cut in half (making a string that is more than 1/4 inch wide). The only way I have ever had one of them brake is when a horse pulls back from being tied or steps on it while grazing.

On the other hand, I am glad that those rope reins are working out for you.
