Pretty sure my colt is going to top out well over 16 hands. He's currently 2 1/2 and about 15.2 hands. And he's going to be a thick tank (already is).

We always geld before they are a year old. If they are not going to be a stallion, there's no reason to deal with the stud behavior and having to worry about keeping them away from the mares.

It is not enough to know how to ride; one must know how to fall.

I would agree with gelding as soon as possible. I have kept horses uncut for longer but seen no difference in their bulk or size as a result - a couple that were gelded early both grew to be way bigger and taller than their parents.
If anything once gelded they will pile on the pounds a lot faster & more easily than a stallion

I had my colt gelded at 5 months.....as soon as the vet would do it. He is 3 years old now and is 15.3h and 1100 lbs.

I really don't think there is any truth that having them gelded young slows their growth in any way. As a matter of fact, I think it has been proven that they grow taller when gelded young. But my guy certainly isn't lacking in the bulk department either.

I really think nutrition has a lot more to do with it than testosterone. I fed my guy really well and did my best to balance his diet so I think that is why he reached his genetic potential. So I think a well thought out feeding plan goes a long way. In my area there are a lot of small horses that never really reach average size and I'm pretty sure it's because they aren't fed very well.
