I was dating a run of the mill rodeo scene cowboy a few year back and fell head over heels in love on our first date. Unfortunatly it was not him I fell in love with but his stallion that he let me ride. I practically moved in with the guy to see the horse every day and he always referred to him as my horse since he was a total sweetie with me and the average pushy stallion with everyone else. We broke up and I bought the horse. Poco is my heart horse and I will have him forever. I could trust him with anything or anyone tho he will not approach a stranger on his own lol. But once I introduce him to a person he will be a total gentleman. :)

Best story yet!!

All horses deserve, at least once in their lives, to be loved by a little girl.

Awesome story, poco! Love it

We have no idea. Were not even sure about the arab though his look certainly suggests it! We like to think he pick through the list of qualities of an arab and found the ones he liked the best. The pretty face...the tiny ears...the big eyes...beautiful floating trot.
What he left behind was...tolerance to any temperature. He will actually put his own blanket on. He is completly intolerant of warm weather. If its over 80...you will find pretty in the barn with the fan on his face. Like his blanket, he will chase you down for a fly mask and spray. Oh...and stamina...even in his best condition. While he is almost completly spook-free, no one wants to take pretty on trails. He cant keep up. More than 10 minutes riding and he is done. Hes a doll though.

Is there any way to have him blood typed? I know his owner would love to know if he is truely arab.

Oh and pardon the double post but:

As far as horses chosing you, I have been told by the BO that I have been chosen by her SSH Scooter. I have been coming to the barn now for about 18 months. I started with Pretty, then Rosie, then Scooter. Pretty is not the type of horse I fall for. If he could talk, all that horse would say is "Boooorrrinnnnggg" He doesn't like affection unless its grooming. He rides like a dream but you can just tell he'd rather be doing something else with someone else.
Rosie is a doll and I have recently started working with her. I've never been fond of draft horses. We ended our friendship last year when she intentionally tramped on my foot and pulled my big toe nail off. Yup, instant break up. LOL
Scooter is just different. I think, personality wise, he is as close to my hearthorse as it gets. He is lovey but sensitive. I rode him for about 4 months before a new rescue came in. When I would ride rebel, he would sit at the fence and stare. If I am in the barn, so is Scooter. When Rebel had to be put down last year, the first day I was back at the barn, Scooter came running to me. He gives great horse hugs. We resumed our relationship and then I bought Nico. Mostly because Scooter is simply too expensive for me to buy. When I started riding Nico, Scooter was outwardly depressed. Now that Nico has been sold, me and Scooter are back together. His owner, our barn manager and about 10 other people have said that Scooter thinks that I am his. When I walk in the barn, he screams for me. The last few times I rode my horse, he waited in the barn for me. If I go in his stall to groom him and try to leave, he hooks me with his chin and hugs me. He has been a pasture pet for a while because he has major spooking issues. Or so I have been told. I have ridden that horse all over and have never gotten one spook out of him. Some day, I will find a buyer for my extra kidney and I can finally afford him! Until then, I'll ride him for free. Love his guts. And just because I love him...heres Scootiful. (doesn't he just LOOK like a comedian?)

Wildey is my tried and true heart horse. A 5yo green broke arab and an 11yo barely-out-of-lessons girl who liked to go fast shouldn't have worked, but we did. There was nothing I couldn't do on that horse, he has the hugest heart. He will still perform for everyone else, but he never quite gives 100% the way he does with me. We did so much he got a bit burnt out so he is currently on loan to a RDA school, but I don't think it will be long before I have him back and we go on another adventure. He is the horse I would jump on bareback and ride to the top of the biggest hill when I was upset.

Now Latte - I think we were meant to be. it was utter chance that we found each other - I was mentioning to a friend that I was thinking about getting another small horse but had no money, and she happened to have a friend with an endurance bred mare who didn't grow just sitting in a paddock.

Latte doesn't get along with most people - Especially my dad, and her nickname is the devil pony - but I just see something in her that draws me to her. I think she is almost on the level Wildey is - But not quite. Of course she can be a little witch and has her moments - But I don't know, I just feel super close to her.

I had a mare, Rebel, who is a BLM Mustang mare, that was my "heart horse". I never thought I would part with her, but I actually ended up giving her away (with an explicit contract that she will be offered to me first if her new owner ever sells her).
I got her when she was 3 years old, terrified of everyone and wild as could be! One of the mot rewarding things in my life is the experience of befriending, training and gaining the trust of that horse. It was a gut-wrenching decision to part with her, but I finally chose to after realizing that I wasn't holding up my part of the deal. . . she wasn't being worked with every day, and though she was healthy and happy, she had reached a plateu as far a training went- she was smart and never forgot a lesson, but really, daily work was what she thrived on. . . so I gave her to an awesome woman who is delighted to have her and spends a good amount of time with her daily, and she is doing excellent.
A hard choice, but a good one, though I still miss her

Ha! I love the Poco story! It is the gender reverse of what John Wayne said in ROOSTER COGBURN. "A man out in these parts values a good woman almost as much as a good horse....almost!"

My first pony was just amazing me at just gone 11 her wild off the mountains!!! She put up with everyrthing and never forgot a single lesson i thought her all be it i was not quite sure how to train her we got there in the end my little 13.2 pony was getting placed in 1.15 classes against horses on a regular basis we fairly stood oiut from the show horses though.....This was a little stock dale x with everything hairy hairy pony bit conventially pretty but cute with a serious attitude to match. If she didnt want to do something you could stand there all day and noway were you going near it i guess she probably kept me alive!!

My heart horse is just amazing not overly affectionate would much rather i didnt groom and fuss around her she is quite aloof but i know she likes me she ****** her ears as i approach and enjoys burying her head into my chest for snuggles and scratches. WHat she lacks on the ground she makes up for under saddle she just tries tries tries everyday for me and is such a pleasure to ride as she never tiers of learning. Dont get me wrong she questions and challenges me daily and for that im greatful as she has helped me reach heights in my riding i didnt know i could get to. ALl that for a horse labbeled dangerous, banned from competing at all registered competitions for her dangerous attitude. Yet we got there!

These two girls just dont ever get really punished by me there so spoilt i only have to raise my voice and its the equivalent of beating them they get so insulted and offended!!!

The rest of my guys are not as lucky they have to stay in line

To give a horse your heart guarantees a love that will last forever undamageable
