The artist George Stubbs would collect a dead horse and take it back to his home and spend ages stripping it down layer by layer and his book 'Anatomy of the Horse' was and still is used by veterinary students today.

Another was a person running, and there were many others... It allowed one to view what the body would look like while the parts were moving, so; lungs inflated with air, blood vessels dilated, and positions of all parts while in really awesome exhibit was the previously described, person on a galloping horse, with the skin on the person's back peeled upward, and then positioned and "plastinated" such that it appeared to be flapping out behind the person such as a cape would...the horse was "frozen" in full gallop (Plastinated), so one could see what the musculature would look like in that state.

It was considered by some to be grotesque, as they utilized the skin in an "artistic", & not purely scientific manner, though it was done as such to indicate MOTION, not to be OVERLY ARTISTIC or grotesque, etc...but I think it's cool and was very disappointed not to be in SF when they had the show at the MOMA there....then it stopped touring, I believe, due to negative press, however, I do not believe the German (original)show was the one utilizing Chinese prisoners (THAT WOULD be horrid and wrong, IMO)...
Yep this is the one I took my best friend and I to see. I loved it! And I wish I were back in the states to see this one

I saw
the Bodies exhibit soon after my cancer diagnosis. It was powerful, yet horrifying at the same time. I imagine this must be an awesome exhibit to see...
