Big day for my little Aspen (Superfine Aspen) today :)
Pulled her out her paddock (she sure was glad to see me... I've only been up there about twice in the last week due to being super busy) gave her a nice groom, got her booties on then took her into the roundyard where we worked on lunging both ways on the line (she did very well, did go into a canter once but came right back down after a few strides), then free-lunging where she did a really nice long and low trot (I think she was showing off as a few people were watching her.... attention seeker!). Also worked on lunging around, then over the tarp - she did well both ways, anticloswise was her worst side, but she did walk over it without a fuss, definately becoming more confident with the tarp.
Cooled her down and left her for a few minutes whilst I put the tarp away/picked up her poo then groomed her down and let her rest.
Jacinta came out as I was grooming her off, so oiled her hooves and let her rest a bit longer (not that she had worked more than about 10-15mins) then we put her bridle on (she took the bit the first go like a pro, only her second time ever wearing it) and then she wore a saddle for the first time. Gave a few looks to the gradual girthing and the saddle being placed on her back, but stood saddled/bridled quite relaxed whilst we all talked, not fussed at all, minimal chewing of the bit, just generally really relaxed. :)
We took her in the round yard and took her off the line and free lunged her at a walk then trot both ways, with the stirrups down. She broke into a canter a few times and suddenly realised there was a saddle on her! ;) Gave a few bucks, nothing big, mostly just to say "What is that?!" but didnt really put too much effort into it, she then worked at a walk trot at liberty around the round yard both ways, and joined up beautifully at the end. Apart from a few bucks (as can be expected - it's the first time she's ever had a saddle on) she was really really well behaved and listened well. Thank you Jacinta for helping me with miss Aspen today and letting us use your Wintec on her, you gave me some good advice that I will remember for the next time I work with her.
Proud of my grump! ;) 310520142448.jpg 310520142447.jpg 310520142443.jpg 310520142429.jpg 310520142427.jpg 310520142426.jpg 310520142424.jpg 310520142418.jpg
