bad day *rant*

Ice in general, is not the horse that everyone dreams of having. He has his own mind, and he likes it that way....he's never really had to follow anyone's direction before, so he throws tantrums easily. I like his independence, for the most part, but today its just RIDICULOUS.

All I want to do is lunge him in the roundpen, with a bit in his mouth, on a lunge line, so that I can work with him not getting himself tangled up in it when he tries to change directions. Well, it takes me, no joke, an HOUR to get the bit in his mouth. The bit I use is a french link fits him very well, and he actually does like it more than he liked his plain d-ring. Its getting it INTO his mouth that he has a problem with....a serious problem. He knows how to lower his head, and he knows how to open his mouth. he takes putting on a halter just fine, and when I rode him in a hackamore, he absolutely loved that. I wrestled with him, I alternated lunging him with lots of direction changes with trying to put the bridle on, I tried putting his halter on first. NOTHING WORKED. It didn't help that his mare friend (whos in season) is screaming for him from her stall, and there is someone working with their horse literally five feet from the round pen. Then comes along three girls who were doing the jump course, now all on their horses, talking with the girl working with her horse. I can't be mad at them, it isn't their fault my horse just doesn't know how to pay attention or focus at all. But it really wasn't helping. I finally decided to take apart his bridle, putting it over his ears first, and then bringing the bit around so he HAD to take it. Even that took five minutes of him just standing there absolutely lifeless, like maybe I'd give up. It was dark by the time all of this was done, so I lunged him for ten minutes or so and then called it a day.

To make matters worse, when I got home, there was no food, my mother was going through one of her emotional tantrums, and my friend was giving me attitude about wanting to come home instead of hanging out after an 8 hour work day, plus the above. I came home and went straight to bed for a nice long nap

Have you ever seen these?
Lickity Bits

They may help with not wanting to take the bit , if there is no other physical/teeth issues.

Horses and children, I often think, have a lot of the good sense there is in the world.

Yes! I have a whole pack of the wraps, and the bit butter....the butter worked twice and then he stopped taking it. Now I use it to top off wormer syringes. The bit wraps have never worked, they just melt all over my hands. :(

His teeth are due to be done in May, and they don't feel sharp/pointy.

Mind you, this is an 12 y/o OTTB. I have NO idea whats been done to him before I got him.
