Best half chaps

I'm in search of a pair of half chaps and having some trouble. Just wondering what opinions were. I don't have any preference as to what brand. I just want a pair that's just going to last, is comfortable, and breathable. I do prefer black( if possible) otherwise, don't care.

I like Ariat ones best. They come in black, have smooth leather on the outside with a grippy suede thing on the inside. They fit well and don't slip.

I love all things Ariat... although some people don't like their half-chaps as much as their boots. I've got a pair of Ariat Terrain's that are going on year 6 maybe? Buttons aren't busted, zippers are still good, suede is worn smooth but they still look good.

I actually thought I'd lost them in all the moves I went through last year and was devastated because I knew I couldn't afford to buy another pair. Did find them eventually whoot! I've seen a lot of people really like the Ariat Breeze Half-Chaps. Those are probably lighter & much more breathable than my terrains. Can't really tell you as I don't have a pair to compare >.>

I really like my Ovation suede ones. They weren't terribly expensive, and the quality seems great for the price. Though I cannot comment on durability as I've only had them for a couple months. Remember, you always get what you pay for so I may have messed myself up on this one!

Okay, I am a western trail rider and don't have a clue about half chaps other than I am intrigued by them. Currently I am riding in chinks and half chaps look like they might be cooler for summer riding.

Is there a certain brand that is better for a person with large calves? I kind of have fat/muscular calves and I don't know if they would make half chaps to fit a larger person?

My calves are pretty dang big, I had to get an XL in the Ovation ones. I ASSUMED I'd be a medium, tried them on and nope. Then tried large, nope. XL fit just right for me.

I have had a pair of suede Ariat half chaps for about 9 or 10 years now. I guess they'll eventually wear out, but I love these things. I'll probably go into mourning if they ever break beyond repair and I have to begin the search for new ones!

The design has changed some over the years, but this is basically what I have- cheap (for ariats) suede leather half chaps. Mine are brown though, and back when I bought they they still made velcro ones, so apparently they weren't THE cheapest-- Half Chaps All Around Chap III - Ariat
