Yeah...if i didn't supply my own buckets @ my BO would use the beat up buckets that have splits, broken edges- just nasty. He uses them in the show barn (yes, really) and the teens don't seem to care although some did buy their own...I like everyone's idea, sad to think that yes, even at your boarding barn you have to lock up your stuff. I look for buckets that have "gone missing" and as I do work there, switch the bad ones out...because I clean them it's no use arguing...but my leopard ones stay- also wrapped hoof picks, brushes etc. Another boarder picked out camo duct tape !!

Have you discovered who has been taking them? I'd be tempted to put skin-staining dye on the bucket or handle. lol. Soldering irons do work great with plastic.. and there is definitely no risk of it getting washed or intentionally 'pulled' off by a bucket thief :)

PinkPony - Yeah, I know what you mean, the BO just uses whatever for most of her horses. There are always extras laying around the barn that are crooked, gnawed on, cracked, etc... like that, they're good for when I've been in a pinch after mine disappeared. I just hate when they still always look dirty no matter how many times I scrub them lol. And the sad thing is, people have even taken those out of my horses' stalls before.

Anatopism - Haha I might have to consider that. Either some dark dye or super glue lol. In the past I knew who stole my mare's buckets constantly, I'd always go and get them back and the woman told the BO that I was stealing them and swore they were her's. The woman was a problem for many things the entire time she was there though, so I think the BO knew she was lying. Then one day I came out there to find that the woman had snuck her horses out one day when the BO wasn't home and she took my buckets with her. I don't understand why she wanted them so bad, but whatever, good riddance lol.

I'm not positive who stole the bucket most recently, but I think I know. It was while this person and the girl leasing my mare were at a show. And I would have understood if she forgot to bring one and needed to borrow it while at the show, but 1) she should have asked permission and 2) it should have been returned when they got back to the barn.
