I love me some bays and browns, blacks or some chestnuts. I am not a fan of blue eyes or grays (thats mostly a cancer thing though). That said I think dapples on any horse make it look amazing. I would really like to in a few years own a BLM mustang. This is the only case in which I would have a strong color preference. I would want a palomino or a black/white pinto. I also figure that since you are basically buying an untouched horse you can be kinda be a color selector.

As has often been said you can't ride color and a good horse is a good horse. I would take a good brain over the prettiest palomino.

I love greys, especially dapples. I don't go by color, so I have never owned one...but I would have a hard time seeing past the color on a grey if one "popped up" in my path. That color (grey) is just that attractive to me.

I only have one color "prejudice" - and it is red, specifically, red roan. I use to ride a lot w a group well into the dark. On occasion, a guy w a red roan would ride w us, and he was forever "behind". When it would be near dark I would look back to see if he was "coming along", and I swear the horse would look headless (the darker face and neck just "disappeared" at dusk), especially w a full moon. It always gave me the creeps. I would have to tell myself it was just it's color, it can't help it, it has a head. Just to spooky.
smrobs likes this.

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it.

Even though cremello isn't my top color choice, now that I own one it always makes me a little sad to see how many people just don't like them... I do really like my boy's coloring; with his long mane and tail he really looks like a unicorn that lost its horn!

My top pick would be a dapple gray that was somehow magically prevented from graying out further Barring that, I'd love to have a smoky grulla with a light gray body just like this one:

Oh, I would never buy a horse just because of color, or refuse to buy one for the same reason, and I realized I totally left out buckskins and duns which I love. My daughter has always disliked greys, but she found her new one on CL, and she was only $200,and advertised as a barrel horse, so she went and looked. She was in very poor condition, and not impressive looking at all, but after lots of love, attention and feed, hay and supplements, she is now gorgeous, and the whole family adores her.

I love sorrels with a lot of chrome and regular old bays!!

But if any colored horse came around and fit the bill for what I was looking for- I wouldnt hesitate to snatch them up! Color not an issue :)

Black and White Appy's; leopard or blanket, Silver Dapple, Chocolate with flaxen mane and tail. The metalic coats of the Akele Teke(sp?). I love blue eyes on black horses, hate the pink skin(my Appy only has a tiny bit around the eyes) and beginning to love bald faces on dark horses. But mostly my favs are the two I have a bay Appy and a sooty(almost chocolate) Palamino.

I like everything really...but my favorites are loudly marked paints, leopard appy, blue roan, grulla, and buckskin. The only thing I'm not a fan of are blue eyes (on dogs too...it creeps me out), or bald faced horses with black "eye liner" and blue eyes.

I also think its funny how I never liked bald faces or mostly white horses, and then I bought my first horse last winter and he is almost all white and has half of a bald face lol. I now loveeeee bald faces (if they don't have dark eye liner or random polka dots on the rim of their eye...I like pretty pink eyelids and rims) and when I'm looking at for sale ads they're always first to catch my eye.

As far as blue eyes go, I only like them if they are surrounded by dark hair and have a dark sclera. If they have a white sclera or if they are surrounded by pink skin, then the eye just looks spooked all the time and never looks soft.

I love my little girl's blue eye.
