Desperate times!! Desperate measures!!
Hey guys!! So it’s been an interesting couple of months! I went from a herd of six to just an old mare. On top of that, we’re moving to a new town. Now we found a really nice private horse boarding situation that would’ve been about 20 minutes away from the new house. Everything was a go but I recently called to make sure everything was set and the BO told me that they had just given away their last boarding spot. So now we’re in a pickle.
The new house sits right in the middle of a half acre plot. And it’s looking like the old lady might be coming to stay with us temporarily. Which is definitely not ideal. We’ve been trying to figure out how we can make this work. She is an old horse, around 26-27 years old and is retired. At her last barn she had to be separated because she is easily bullied and won’t eat. So they put her in a round pen by herself and she seemed to be fine, she likes her alone time. I know that I won’t have a lick of grass in such a small space. We also have 2 dogs and they all love each other. So the idea at this point is to fence in the whole backyard, and build a little covered “shed” for her and her dogs. We have a neighbor on one side, and our neighbor on the other side is about a half mile down the road. I have a book about horse keeping on small acreage, but I’m pretty sure my space is wayyy smaller than anything in that book lol. What do you guys think?
