Does this old horse movie ring any bells

there was a great race horse movie me and my mom watched years ago and we never knew the name of it and have searched and searched maybe someone here will know.. The plot was something like there were two thoroughbred farms one was sinking. The other offered to buy the one out and the big head haunch o came by and hand choose the horses that her wanted. But the sinking farm hid a few horses from him so that he wouldn't choose them and one of the horses was just a nothing horse hat they decided to hide anyway and ended up winning the derby at the end of the movie. There was a love story in there and a quirky old man but that's all I can remember..Have always wanted o watch it again.

That's not the one where they are racing a pregnant mare across the state lines to beat the time zone so that it can be born within the right timeframe?

That sounds a little like The Christmas Stallion, but something tells me it's not. I don't remember any part where they were hiding horses.

That does sound familiar - I'm sure I watched it as well but many moons ago but alas I am of no help to you with regard to the name.
