Donkey Basketball

At my old High School, Stockbridge, MI, they do this thing yearly and it's donkey basketball. Mind you- we are purty hillbilly around this area and people drive tractors to school... but anyways... the school district gathers a herd of donkeys together and they get assigned to a teacher. Teachers that volunteer then ride the donkeys are the gym and play basketball, but only while riding donkeys. Now, our last event, we had several PETA members attend, very upset with us saying that this is animal cruelty. There was even rumorst that Miley Cyrus almost attended. I just want to know other peoples opinions on whether they believe that this is all in good fun or animal cruelty...

My boyfriend told me to pick between him and my horse. I better go get my saddle </3

There is donkey basketball around here all the time and I think it is all in good fun. The guy who brings his donkeys to these has them all very well trained. He has some that will let you ride them and others than will do anything to get you off. You have to be at least holding the donkeys lead rope while playing. All they wear is a halter with a short lead rope for reins. They have little rubber shoes on their feet so they do not slip and fall. The shoes are actually rubber soles that go on dress type shoes. I have yet to ever see a donkey hurt at one of them. They all seem to enjoy it just as much as the players. The last time I went I had a chance to play, but was not allowed due to a broken foot, which sucked because I really wanted to play!!!

You know how to make a miniature horse even smaller? Leave them in the dryer a little longer!

Never played Donkey basketball, but we have donkey polo at the fair :P

Don't worry, we drive tractors to school here too. Even people who live 30 miles away. This year there were like 20 tractors, and 2 lawn mowers *rolls eyes* the town kids wanted to be rebels. But that was like 10% of our highschool who drove a tractor to school. But I think our principle is going to destroy that tradition from now on. Something about it being illegal or something? She's just a fun killer.

Sorry, random tangent.

Yup, I think donkey basketball is ok. They're just using the donkeys and riding them. If PETA has a problem they should investigate some other places where more cruel riding and training techniques are used
