Extra Care for the 4th of July?

Happy 4th of July! Since this is my first summer having a blind horse, I am finding myself more paranoid about the 4th. We live in a very populated area, and there are three major fireworks shows within sight distance of our house. We also live right next to a neighborhood where they set off lots of firecrackers. In past years I have even found remnants of bottle rockets along the outer edge of the pasture. I know they weren't shot inside intentionally, it's just the close proximity to other houses. My horses have never really minded the noise too much, at most would trot a couple laps around and then settle. But I remember watching a filly at a farm where I worked run through a fence one 4th, before anyone could catch her, and it made me worry about my guy who can't see. So tonight I'm planning on bringing them all in the barn, turning on all the fans and the radio to dull the noise and then put them back out either around midnight, or bright and early in the AM. Just wondering if anybody else takes special precautions for the holiday? Either the 4th or New Years?

I live in Canada so I don't need to worry about today.

Actually, I live about 10 mins from the border so we can usually hear some faintly, but not enough to frighten anyone.

I think you've got a good idea. If you're not going out or anything, maybe just keep and eye on them while the fireworks are going on.

The 4th is always a concern for me too. I have a 32 yr old horse that is terrified of fireworks. I think overall we did ok this year. Only last night did one of our neighbors shooot off a bunch of fire works. She ran around some and then out into the field where we went and calmed her down.

How did it go for you?

Last year since it was the first time we had a choice, we stalled the girls on the night of the 4th since we didn't know how they would be. They were fine, so last night they stayed out in their paddocks. I don't think it hurts to take precautions, before last year I never even thought about fireworks bothering them.
