mls,

Reading the ad copy, and know that they had had the horse 4 days? Maybe not misrepresenting in the legal sense, but the ad certainly gives a very different impression.

Are the first questions I ask "How long have you had the horse?", "Where did you get it?" And "What do you know about the previous owners?" Sure. Do I always expect to get truthful answers? Not so much.

And while I agree with you all, I can and do still sympathize with the OP.

Psst - we are reading the ad copy the OP posted - not the actual ad.

I'm just saying . . .

I copied that ad right from craigslist, so no, I didn't lie, and it would make no sense for me to lie about tha.
DIDN'T YOU GUYS READ THE FIRST THING I POSTED?! I said I know I sold him, its out of my hands. I was just upset that they did that.
Actually, Chances' problems wern't stemming from me or his teeth. They were from his previuos owner, a HORRIBLE girl. Everytime he took a misstep, she would kick him with her spurs and yank back on his mouth, and over time, he learnined to rear. He didn't rear when you pulled his mouth, he reared when you were trying to get him to do somthing he didn't want to do. He and I clashed, just like the story the other one posted. For what they were *going* to do with him, he would be perfect. I wanted to gymkhana and have an all-rounder horse. He was a group trail horse. PERIOD. That's why I sold him. Even my neighbor, who's a pro barrel racer, agreed that he wasn't right for me, after watching me with him for 6 months.
Chance is gone now, and I know it. I just wanted to vent a little.

TH, I think what we're trying to say (or what I'm trying to say anyways) is that it's best to contact the person you're angry with directly rather than posting an ad that could be construed as slander - and yes, you can get charged for it, and yes, it can ruin your credibility. There are better ways to handle a situation, and I hope you learned from this experience and peoples' responses.
Please take this experience and learn from it - if you ever have to sell a horse cheap, next time ask for and check references - anyone who's being honest about giving the horse a good home will be completely upfront with such things, and are usually appreciative that you're making the effort to make sure they are the best home for your horse.

I agree, though it would be libel not slander. Slander is spoken.

Instead of selling cheap, what about giving the horse to a rescue? That's another option.

I would have done the same thing, TH. If she had promised a good home, then she should've given it to him. Plus, she is lying. Why let her get away with that? You told the truth about him, and she wasn't. She was being dishonest. I would have posted something too. Even if you had contacted her beforehand, she still was misrepresenting the horse. It wouldn't have changed anything except that you might not have put that reply ad up and someone would've bought the horse from her, encouraging her to just turn around and do the same thing again. You're venting, I understand, I would be doing the same thing too. I care about and love my horses and would be upset if they had gone to the wrong person.
