Talking freeze brand on quarter horse

I have a 27 year old, all black very tanky quarter horse gelding. we got him 7 years ago from the human societly. supposely he is from montana, but we arent 100% sure. he has a freeze brand on the right side of his neck. it has an upside down Q and it has symbols like the wild horse brands. i decoded it and put it in the aqha search and nothing came up. it say Q86431246 the 8 is on top of the 6 which indicates on when he was born...so can anyone help me figuer out if he is registered or if he used to be a wild horse? the vet said he used to be a reiner if that helps. let me know thanks

I know that horses captured by the BLM are always branded on the left side of their neck. The only breed I've ever seen that was commonly branded on the right was Standardbreds. Of course, there may be other breeds branded that way, I don't know.

If he truly is a Quarter Horse, the only thing I can think of is that it might be a breeder brand, where the "Q" is their farm, the "86" is his year of birth and the rest of it is a registration number or identification number of some sort.

Do you have good pictures of his whole body from either side? Some breeds have pretty universal appearance things that can sometimes indicate breed from pictures.

You have everything you need to figure oit who he is. The upside down q means his AQHA # starts with 3. you have his year of birth amd tje rest is his registration #.
