@waresbare, you are in BC? Did you get lots of snow as well? It was -43 here last night.....I think there is light at the end of the tunnel though. Just have to get through 4 more days of this....

It breaks my heart to see the posts on FB of the animal owners who leave their dogs outside in this. It just isn't right :(

Stay warm!!!

For several years we went to central Canada on fishing/camping trips. I loved Canada but - that - was - in - the - summer.

That minus forty that is both C & F is without the windchill. Mercy, you folks up there are a tough bunch of cookies and I tip my hat to all of you:

Ah! Mehbee I would have liked Central Canada after all!

Manymanymany moons ago (late 1960’s) we would stay at Friedman’s Lodge on Lake Nip****ing and fish. I loved that area.

I wasn’t going to say anything but it’s 59F here. Wednesday will see 70(F), and by Sunday our daytime high is supposed to only be 37(F).

Even my weather app can’t keep up with the fast changes. I check it every night at the barn to see how tight I should close the barn. The other night, lows were to be in the forties but went to mid-thirties.

I can’t wait to see what summer brings —— yes I can:cool::cool:

Nonsense. -20C is still good riding weather. When it's -30 I do things with them in the barn. It's a good time to teach picking up feet, putting down the head, etc. They still get turnout but I might shut them in at night.

At -40C I run to the barn and run back in the house after chores are done. There's a limit to my insanity.

We are having a surprisingly mild winter here in the east. While folks out west generally get colder weather than we do, it isn't unusual for us to be in the -20s for weeks on end. Not this year. Very mild so far! The temperatures are generally hovering around the -10 mark which is really mild! We also haven't had a ton of snow which is unusual. Probably a bad sign for the planet, but it sure is nice to have a mild winter for a change.

Well it was NOT me that bleeped out the name of the lake; it was the HF software. This is ridiculous—————

Am I a terrible owner if I haven't seen my horse since Saturday? Put him in his "so cold your eyeballs freeze" blanket and have been at home in a blanket ever since. Not quite -40, but it's -30c now. Tonight it will be -38(w.o wind). At work I have a space heater, sweater, long John's, and a blanket. Thankfully we've had little to no wind or things would be so much worse.

For the record, my horse chores are minimal. We put out two round bales and all I have to do is check on the hundred gallon tank to fill it. My horses kind of seem to like it, they run around like crazy when it's cold. Smart, Cariboo nags, self exercise, stay warm, eat lots!

I’m in Saskatchewan, Canada. The last few days we’ve been around the -25 c in daytime to -30 c overnight without the wind chill factor. I’ve been putting my horses in the barn overnight as I find that it is just feels too cold (neither the horses or me are getting any younger) and they’re waiting at the door and hustle right into their stalls.

Well, I think today is the coldest day that I have done horse chores in my entire life. It it is a temperature of -41 with a windchill of -48. The ice crystals are just kind of hanging in the air so it even looks super cold.

I wish I could leave a round bale out, but I fork feed hay every day. It is good exercise for me, but when it is this cold I would rather not. My one guy has heaves, so having his face shoved in a round bale just won't work. But I am going through hay 2-3 times faster when it has been this cold; I head out about 3 times during the day to give them more hay and make sure they are OK.

I think today is the coldest day, then things slowly get a bit better; by next Monday I think we are -3.

Our winter has been pretty mild up until this cold spell.
@Acadianartist, you are much braver than I am. I might take the horses for a hand walk down the road in -20, but I will not ride in anything colder than -8 to -10. My toes and hands just get way too cold.

By the time it gets up to -20 that might just feel balmy now! LOL

Not brave at all, I'm actually kind of a wimp and have poor circulation so I have to be careful with my extremities. Still, properly dress in several layers, it's quite comfortable! Wind is a huge factor though, of course, and at -20, my rides will be more like half an hour rather than an hour. You just really have to dress for it. It's taken me a while to assemble the right wardrobe, but now that I have, I don't mind going out in those temperatures. Now -40, that's something I have probably never experienced! I remember it going down to -37C a few times, but not -40. That's nuts. It would be awful for Harley.

-3 here today. Really warm winter here so far! Hope your cold spell ends very soon!

Well we've had the a/c on for the last week or so here. High today is 80*F. I wish it were cooler and maybe even for snow. My SO still wants to move to Alaska. I told him I'm game but only after Thunder and Koda pass. Both dogs are seniors so not sure how well they would do with Alaska winters

Well, it warmed up, only -35 over night and daytime highs of -23C, woohoo! So I am outside, working in the dark, fumbling with phone flashlight app, then *palm face*. I had this all along...
