So last year I worked at a horse farm as a student worker. It was alot of hard work, but I learned alot. This year I came back to work there again and my friend from school got hired too. This year it is completly different. Both of the boss are working (one evening shift another doesn't come home until the weekend) so the two of us are in charge of caring for about 37 horses. We are feeling very overworked and a little underappreciated. The pay is not good and we thought we were working for the experience and the chance to work with horses and become better riders. But it seems more like we are just working...well doing everything. We clean barn, fix tractors, deweb barns, clean out kennels, weed the garden, move hay from one barn to another by hand because we are not allowed to drive the vehicles. We are exhausted but we are able to pull through because we work well together and have been trying to make it fun. Usually we get one day off a week and I was informed that I do not get my day off next week because my friend is going home for his sisters wedding. This means I will be working 10 days straight with out a day to myself. However, the week before when I was not up there yet in NH to work my friend still got his day off. This does not seem fair. I plan on talking with my boss and asking why 'my day off' is no longer my day off. If it is because the horses can't be fed, I don't mind working half a day and at least getting two half days up with evening feeding set up for the boss to feed really quick before he leaves. However, I am not sure if he is going to like this. My boss has a very short temper (the ones that works nights) and belittles people telling them they don't know anything. Today he yelled at me because I didn't remember little facts he told me last year once at the beginning of the year. Like the hell I am suppose to remember every detail he has told me.
Anyways, i am starting summer online classes and I had told the other boss (the one that works weeks and gets weekends off) that I will need two days off a week once June hit. I don't think she has told the guy who is there right now and I am a little afraid that they won't give them to me even though i told them about it. Is it okay if I quit if they don't give me the two days off a week I need to do homework? I just don't know what to do. I am feeling very used by these people and i am can easily work with other people's horses in the area as well as get a good paying job. But I feel like I should stay because i worked for them last year. Even if they do give me the two days off, I am having doubts that I want to stay with the treatment that I have been recieving. But I feel obligated. Idk...Input would be great.
