What gets me is that most people consider dressage to be so tame and safe. Not this time :(

Mods, grant me the serenity to see the opinions I cannot change, courage to change the ones that should change, and the wisdom to spot the trolls.

That's horrifying, and I'm amazed she could move at all with that kind of injury!

It had to have been a 'clean break' so to speak; if her spinal cord had been touched at all, or damaged, she would not have been able to move at all. What a scary thing to happen though!

We had a friend who had a similar thing happen years ago, only her neck wasn't broken all the way through...her horse had spooked, and thrown her off, and she was able to get up and walk the length of her driveway back up to her house...she said she knew it was broken, before she even got to the hospital! I can't imagine what an injury like that would be like...I have compression fractures in my back, and that is bad enough at times!

Hopefully she was, or she may have had head injuries too - no helmet would be able to have helped prevent her neck injury though.

I read this a lot earlier today, but I have not been able to lose the image of me picking up my neck. My rational mind knows that this could happen while crossing the road, or driving a car, but the image is so gross it has stuck with me.
I am so glad that this rider has made a recovery. She is very lucky.

Blaaaah, my stomach turned at the mental image that article gave me. Bleck. Glad that she is okay though.
